Binge Eating Treatment Overview

Binge eating treatment is the same as treatment for compulsive overeating. Binge eating disorder usually begins during the late teens or early 20s with women being more likely to have binge-eating disorder than men. Research shows that people with binge eating disorder have a long history of failed attempts at dieting. It is estimated that a high percentage of individuals participating in diet programs actually require binge eating treatment. When entering binge eating treatment in order for there to be an accurate diagnosis, the individual needs to binge on a daily basis 2-3 days a week for a period of approximately six weeks - minimum. As one can imagine, many of the people seen in binge eating treatment are ashamed of their bodies, suffer from low self esteem and require treatment for depression or anxiety. In addition, many of these people suffer from drug addiction, which began in attempt to lose weight.

Choosing a Binge Eating Treatment Program

Treatment for binge eating is best provided in a residential binge eating treatment program. Many times people are resistant to going onto residential treatment and try outpatient therapy or diets. Unfortunately, due to the lack of structure, most people end up in relapse and begin feeling helpless and hopeless. A residential binge eating treatment program provides not only structure, but nutritional counseling and support as you begin addressing the issues associated with your binge eating.
